Root canal retreatment
If a previous root canal treatment was not successful, root canal retreatment becomes necessary.
There can be various reasons for this: the microscopically small and complex canal system could not be cleaned completely, individual canals were missed, or the canals were not filled sufficiently, allowing bacteria to recolonise these areas. This often leads to chronic inflammation, which can also turn into an acute process.
The tricky thing about chronic inflammation is that patients often feel no pain and only find out about it at a routine check-up. Yet this kind of inflammation puts a strain on the immune system, which is constantly fighting the infection. That is why these teeth must be treated.
