Healthy teeth for mother and baby

Dental care during pregnancy

Pregnancy changes a lot – including in your mouth.

Hormonal changes increase blood flow to the gums, which then swell more easily and react more sensitively to plaque. Many pregnant women therefore notice bleeding gums when brushing (pregnancy gingivitis). Left untreated, this can develop into periodontitis. Studies also suggest a link between periodontitis and an increased risk of premature birth.

Targeted prevention during pregnancy protects your teeth and gums – and does your baby good at the same time.

Our recommendation

  • Come for a check-up as early in your pregnancy as possible.
  • Professional teeth cleaning using the gentle GBT concept works particularly well in the second trimester and noticeably relieves the gums.
  • During pregnancy we only take X-rays if they are truly unavoidable.
  • We plan any necessary treatment as gently as possible and adapt it to your situation.

Everyday tips

Small habits, big impact

  • Brush thoroughly twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth.
  • After nausea or vomiting, rinse your mouth with water and wait about half an hour before brushing – this protects enamel softened by acid.
  • Cut down on frequent sweet or acidic snacks where possible.
  • A healthy mouth in the parents reduces the risk of caries bacteria being passed on to your baby later.

We are happy to advise you – and look forward to accompanying your child on their first visits to the dentist later on.
